Creepy Oktoberfest

I will try to post something Halloween-related each October Sunday. Today you get to see the "dark side" of the Oktoberfest. While the weather couldn't have been better during my visit, I still found some pretty creepy stuff. Below you see the nightmare of my childhood. Frankenstein's monster walking slowly towards the screaming woman who then cowered in horror. Nowadays the figures don't move anymore, but I still vividly remember how scared I was as a child.

This monkey looks innocent enough, but every now and then it spitted water on the people walking by. Little evil thing...

This ride is called Höllenblitz (Hell Lightning). There are lots of demonic stone faces on the facade.

Another tunnel of horror.

Here you take a Ride to Hell (Fahrt zur Hölle).

That's the famous Teufelsrad (Devil's Wheel). It was first introduced in 1910, and can nowadays only be found on the Oktoberfest. If you dare, you can go on the wheel inside the attraction. You try to cling to it while it starts spinning faster and faster.

A demonic face on another ghost train.

This ride has one of the best facades.

I really like the owls.

Trashy but fun.

The cars have a pretty gothic look.

One of the "ghosts" helping people to get out of the cars.

That man was creepy. And scary. Worthy of nightmares. Shudder...

He stared into the crowd, motionless for minutes. I watched how little children started to get frightened. He was frightening for sure...

That look...

To get into the right Halloween mood, I have recently watched Paranormal Activity and its sequel as well as The Sorcerer's Apprentice. Any other movies I shouldn't miss? Be sure to tell me about your creepy October plans.

  1. I love this post. I am so into the scary year round. I watch all the scary movies that come out. I have since I was a kid. Have you seen The Yellow Brick Road? Different.
Thanks so much for posting my giveaway.

  2. I love scary and a great mystery. I can see how this would be so very fun, but would scare a child.
It's fun to look back and remember how afraid you were and how things change now.
Thanks so much for the visit to my blog, Char

  3. This was both scary and creepy! Super!
Sorry that I don't visit often - I just can't keep up with all of the blogging, painting, etc.
Hope that you have a great week!

  4. Eek! That guy IS creepy! So cool that you have such a great selection of rides though. Surely there was one that wasn't too scary...

I'm sad that your cards haven't gotten there yet. The post office said 4-6 weeks, but I was hoping that they would come sooner, rather than later. If they haven't arrived by the end of this week, let me know and I'll see if I can track the package.

    Hugs!

  6. Liebe Birgit,

uiii, das sind aber Gestalten dort auf dem Oktoberfest! Da hätte ich auch ein bisschen Angst :)
Ich war vor Jahren dort und habe schöne lustige Erinnerung...

  7. Love your pics as always! I'm not much for the scary so the movies I watch would be tame to you. I love Hocus Pocus with Bette Midler for my Halloween movie. Also love the Witches of Eastwick and The Witches is cute too. Not so much a Halloween theme but fun none the less is Labyrinth with David Bowie. A Disney movie - The Haunted Mansion is another I've enjoyed watching over the years.
So...there are some ideas from me.
That guy there is much too scary for me and I would stay way far away from that ride! ;)
Hope you have a great week!
    Hugs!
For a bit scary...you can take a look at my Zombie image for the SPA challenge in my blog.
