Since Christmas season lasts until January 6th -- Epiphany -- here in Germany, it's not too late for a look back to December and Christmas. Do you remember my Advent calendar with the semiprecious stones? I now have 24 lovely gemstones -- and the rose quartz on December 24th turned out to be larger than the others and looks especially nice:
I visited the Christmas market at Munich's Marienplatz (Mary's Square) in December. I already posted a couple of photos of the New Town Hall and Christmas tree, and here are some more pictures:
On the left side you see the New Town Hall and on the right side the Old Town Hall in the very background along with the Mariensäule (Mary's column).
The various Christmas booths offered all kinds of Christmas decorations and treats.
I wonder who possibly buys such a scary monkey face Christmas ball...
I just love the birds and bought the owl a couple of years ago for my mom.
Near the Frauenkirche (Cathedral of Our Blessed Lady) was this Glühwein (mulled wine) booth in the shape of the church:
Here is the real thing:
At the entrance, you see the Devil's Footstep:
From Wikipedia: "This is a black mark resembling a footprint with a small hooked tail at the heel, which, according to legend, was where the devil stood when he curiously regarded and ridiculed the windowless church that Halsbach had built. In fact, it is a large casting in the square base plate, and none of the side windows can be seen from the spot when one looks to the high altar. In another version of the legend, the devil made a deal with the builder: no windows were to be built in the church. The clever builder, however, tricked the devil by positioning columns so that the windows were not visible from the spot where the devil stood in the foyer. When the devil discovered that he had been tricked, he could not enter the already consecrated church. The devil could only stand in the foyer and stomp his foot furiously, which left the dark footprint that remains visible in the church's entrance today."
There was some snow in December, even though most of the white stuff had melted until Christmas.
Finally, here are some Christmas photos:
On the right picture you can see the owl I mentioned earlier.
The little angel below is a gift from our Austrian friend Lisi who carved the marvelous crib figures.
If you look close (click on the image to get a larger version), you can see yours truly mirrored in the red Christmas ball. There are a lot of birds in the Christmas tree, and here's the newest one:
